We pull small plugs of soil about 2.5 inches deep to relieve compaction and break up thatch, so water, air and fertilizer reach the roots. We do core aeration in the spring.

Aeration plus new seed to thicken a thin lawn. The holes give seed the soil contact it needs to sprout. We do it in the fall, the best time for new grass, and leave watering and mowing instructions.
